Miami Fusion

Eating out (salir a comer fuera) in Miami is part of the culture. The good weather and the relaxed lifestyle (estilo de vida) of residents and visitors means people spend a lot of time in cafés and restaurants. The quality of most places is high and the food is influenced by classic American, Latino and Caribbean cuisine. This is called “Floribean” cuisine. Cuban food has traditionally been associated with the city, but now there are high-quality restaurants from all South American and Caribbean countries. There are also local wines (vinos de la zona) that have won international recognition and a prestigious food and wine festival in South Beach.

Latino Cuisine
Because of its location, Miami receives immigrants from everywhere in Latin America and the Caribbean. There are high-quality restaurants with the cuisine of all these countries. For example, you can have an espresso with a medialuna in an Argentinean café for breakfast. For lunch you can have a steak sandwich at a Uruguayan place like El Rey del Chivito. And after a hard day (un duro día) on the beach you can eat the rodízio at a Brazilian restaurant, like Porcão Churrascaria on Biscayne Bay. The waiters will bring you mountains of meat until you tell them to stop.

Floribean Flavours
Because there are a lot of rich and famous people living in Miami, there are obviously excellent restaurants (if you are prepared to pay the price!). One classic Miami restaurant is Chef Allen’s, the restaurant belonging (perteneciente) to master chef Allen Susser. His menu includes lots of fish and seafood, cooked with Caribbean ingredients like pineapple,(piña) coconut and mango. Here you experience the best of fusion cuisine, authentic Floribean flavours.

Florida Wine
To accompany your food you can enjoy some local wines. Florida is a place where people have cultivated wine for 300 years. French and Spanish immigrants brought (trajeron) their winemaking skills (técnicas para hacer vino) with them when they came to America. Florida’s wines have won international recognition, including Muscadine wine with its unique flavour. For something original there are wines made from different fruits from the Florida Orange Groves Inc and Winery. Among (Entre) other varieties, it produces wines made from oranges, blackberries (moras) and even mangos – perfect for the Florida heat.(calor)
