Aphrodisiac Food

Valentine’s Day is here once again (una vez más) and it is time to buy some red roses for our loved ones. And, of course it is the night for a romantic dinner for two, and some time alone… But to ensure (asegurarte) that you and your beloved (amado/a) are feeling sexy, choose the menu carefully. It is a good idea to include some of the various foods that are renowned (famoso/célebre) for being aphrodisiacs. If you follow our advice (consejo) this month, you will definitely have a fantastic Valentine’s night.

Champagne
Any romantic menu has to begin with champagne, the perfect drink for any special occasion. The bubbles (burbujas) tickle (cosquillean) the tongue and excite our palate. If two people are drinking champagne they will look deep into each other’s eyes and say sweet words as the glasses gently touch. On a more practical level, because we usually drink champagne on an empty stomach, it makes us feel silly. We will probably say and do certain things we would be reluctant to say and do without a few glasses of ‘bubbly’(nombre coloquial para champán) inside us.

Caviar
And what is the ideal accompaniment to champagne? Caviar, of course. Try not to feel guilty (culpable) about eating it. Your caviar consumption will be an extremely expensive few minutes, but remember that they will prove (demostrará) to your lover how much you care for (te preocupas) him or her. And you can close your eyes and think of that special person as you feel the eggs melt (derretirse) on your tongue.
Oysters
The oyster, with its soft, sensual texture, is the quintessential sexy food. Eating them raw (cruda) is the best way to appreciate their subtle flavours.(sutiles sabores) They contain a lot of zinc, an essential mineral for creating testosterone. Scientists do not agree on how many you need to eat for them to have an aphrodisiac effect, but a dozen will probably be sufficient. You will have definitely lost your inhibitions if you are capable of swallowing (tragar) twelve raw oysters!

Foie Gras
Like caviar, foie can make us feel guilty. In this case, not only for the money we have spent on it, but also for the fate of the unfortunate ducks that died for our pleasures. After a few glasses of champagne, however,(Sin embargo) you will probably be enjoying the smooth (suave), creamy taste of this delicacy. Any guilt, as in several other contexts, can wait until the morning.
Truffles
Greek philosophers were fascinated by it, the Popes in Avignon were addicted to it, and Brillat-Savarin called it “the diamond of the kitchen”. He wrote that “the truffle is a positive aphrodisiac, and under certain circumstances makes women kinder, and men more amiable”. A tiny quantity of it in any food gives it that distinctive truffle aroma and flavour and will surely contribute to making your meal deliciously sexy.

Chocolate
The dessert is the climax of the meal, and you have to ensure (asegurarte) that you choose it carefully. The best option is something that contains lots and lots of chocolate. A chocolate cake with a warm chocolate sauce (salsa) would be a good suggestion. Chocolate gives us a lot of pleasure because it melts in the mouth. It also makes our brains (cerebros) release (liberar) serotonin, making us feel happy. And what better way to end the meal than with a passionate, inviting, chocolaty kiss?
