When you first see the History of English, your first impression might be long and boring. But here's an entertaining, short explanation by the Open University! It is made up of ten chapters. The narrator speaks fast but the illustration helps out. Anyhow, you can appreciate why English is such a hodgepodge (batiburrillo) and why so much sounds so little like it's spelled!
